A couple were left seriously injured – with one of them knocked unconscious – in an alleged unprovoked attack after a night out in Cardiff city centre.
Danielle Price, 24, was walking home with her partner after an evening out on Monday, July 19 when the pair were attacked on Caroline Street – Chippy Lane – by another man and woman. The urgent care worker said the attack happened after a man approached them offering drugs, which they refused.
“We were walking back when a male came up to us and offered us Cocaine,” said Danielle. “We said ‘no thanks’ but he just kept on and on. In the end he was saying ‘What’s your problem?’ to which I again said we weren’t interested. He raised his arm and then and threatened to stab my partner. It’s all a bit of a blur to be honest because it all happened so quickly.”

Danielle said that a woman then joined the man and started attacking Danielle while her partner was being beaten by the man who allegedly offered the drugs.
She said: “She pushed me up against the wall and started beating me. While my partner was sort of looking over to see if I was OK the man punched him in the jaw and fell unconscious.”

Danielle said that fortunately, because she works in urgent care, she was able to act quickly at the scene while waiting for emergency services to attend: “Luckily knew what to do. There was a homeless lady too who helped, she was an angel. By this point the police were on their way.”

Danielle has been left with a cut to her face, bruising to her face and jaw and a big clump of hair missing from the attack. She said that as well as the physical trauma, the attack will leave mental scars.
“I was in shock to be honest with you. So much so that it was only the next day I realised what she had done to my hair. By now, my jaw is all bruised, I have a cut under my eye, she pulled a huge chunk of my hair out so now I have a huge bald patch. I have to wear a headband to work to cover it My hair is my pride and joy so I’m just hoping it grows back but it’s more the mental scars you have to live with.”
Unfortunately for Danielle, she says this is not the first time she has been attacked in Cardiff city centre and wants to warn others to stay safe: “We had had a wicked night – you just don’t expect this to happen. It makes you not want to go out. Everyone should just be aware and to stay vigilant and don’t go out alone – not that it should have to be like this. I just want everybody to stay safe really – you never think something like this will happen.”
A spokesperson from South Wales Police said: “Officers in Cardiff are investigating a report of an assault which happened at around 12.30am on Monday July 19 in the Old Brewery Quarter of the city. “Two people, a 24 year-old woman from Barry and a 25 year-old man from Butetown were assaulted by a man and a woman.
“Officers are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the assault or who have any information which will help in the investigation to contact them, quoting reference 2100252810.”
