Carrie Johnson has urged pregnant women to have the coronavirus vaccine after getting her second dose of the jab.

The Prime Minister’s wife said she was originally hesitant about getting the jab in case it was linked to miscarriages, but current data suggests there are no additional risks.

The 33-year-old is due to give birth to her second child in December had told her private Instagram followers that she was “feeling great” after her second dose of the vaccine.

Sky reported Mrs Johnson originally revealed she had suffered a miscarriage earlier in the year when she announced she was pregnant again.

Posting a picture of herself with a COVID-19 vaccine sticker on her private Instagram on Saturday, she added: “Nearly 200,000 pregnant women across the UK and US have received the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines recommended during pregnancy, without safety concerns.

“The Royal College of Midwives has said that expectant mothers are at greater risk of serious illness if they get COVID so being vaccinated really is the best way to keep you and your baby safe.”

The NHS current recommends pregnant women should get the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines as they have been more widely used in expectant mothers.

A spokesman said: “This is because these vaccines have been more widely used during pregnancy in other countries and no safety concerns have been identified.

“If you’ve already had the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine for your 1st dose and did not have any serious side effects, you should have it again for your 2nd dose.

“The vaccines cannot give you or your baby COVID-19.”

Mrs Johnson married the PM in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in May.

The new child will be a sibling to 15-month-old Wilf, making Boris Johnson the first Prime Minister to have two babies while leading the country.
